Max Rothman is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker with 15 years of experience as a Director, Producer, Writer and Editor. He has worked on a wide range of projects of all genres, ranging from broadcast news and reality television - with clients including NBC, Animal Planet, and the USA Network, among others - to experimental film, animation, and dance. His work has been screened at festivals and art galleries worldwide, including South by Southwest, Palm Springs International Film Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival, the Brooklyn Academy of New York (BAM), and countless more.

His focus as a writer and director is exploring the emotional depths of contemporary life hidden in the quotidian, and, through patient observation, honoring and shedding light on the nuances that enliven even the most traditional lifestyles and seemingly banal circumstances.

As a producer, Max balances working for brands and commercially-oriented, US-based independent filmmakers with his passion for supporting the work of some of the most visually unique and boundary-pushing filmmakers from around the world, providing them with a supportive and nourishing environment where their creative individuality can thrive. He is focused on building communities and expanding audiences’ appreciation and understanding for the unique pleasures and depths that alternative and experimental cinema can provide.
